A Prayer for The Beloved
Beloved,
leave not a breath between my will and Yours.
Not a pause where I still hold myself apart,
not a hidden corner where I insist on knowing.
Draw me out of my own intentions,
out of the small, careful choosing
that pretends to be devotion.
Unfasten me from the need to steer,
to shape the way You arrive.
Let what I call my will grow quiet.
Let it soften into listening,
then soften again into trust,
until even trust is no longer needed.
Take me beneath thought,
beneath effort,
beneath the one who prays.
Let me sink wholly into Thee,
not as an act,
not as surrender done well,
but as the simplest return,
like breath forgetting itself
inside the air that holds it.
Beloved,
keep nothing of me intact
that stands apart from You.
